OPENING SOON... Pet Wellness Veterinary Hospital's main facility is under construction at the corner of 59th & Sycamore and expected to open in June 2026. Javers Construction is building the 3,700 square foot facility includes 3 exam rooms, a quiet room with private exit, a large medical treatment area, surgery suite, x-ray room, staff offices, breakroom and a meeting room for the Hanson Family Foundation ARC team.

Veterinarian-Founders Reimagining Access to Compassionate, High-Quality Vet Care

The veterinarian-founders of the Pet Wellness Veterinary Group nonprofit dba Pet Wellness Veterinary Hospital are making high-quality veterinary care more accessible for the Sioux Falls community. In collaboration with the Hanson Family Foundation, the Pet Wellness Veterinary Hospital offers reasonable prices for essential care, and pay-over-time options.

Dr Ann McLeod

Dr McLeod earned both her undergraduate and veterinary doctoral degrees from Mississippi State University. Her broad veterinary experience spans emergency and general medicine, surgery, shelter medicine, alternative therapies, pharmaceuticals, and preventive care for pets. She has worked in Mississippi, Florida, Illinois, and Missouri. Dr McLeod relocated to South Dakota in the fall of 2024 with her husband Bill, an officer with the SD Air National Guard. They live on an acreage outside of Parker with four King Charles Spaniels, two of which were adopted from Dakota Dachshund Rescue, and a barn featuring a small tribe of recently adopted goats. Dr McLeod spent much of 2025 working with local animal welfare organizations.

Dr Al Harrist

Dr Harrist graduated from the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine (1994), where he earned awards for small animal diagnostics and therapeutics. He possesses extensive expertise in small animal medicine and surgery, emergency and critical care, and shelter medicine. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Harrist served as Chief Veterinarian at the Southern Animal Foundation in New Orleans, a nonprofit dedicated to serving financially challenged clients and providing free spay/neuter services for feral cats. Most recently, he returned to his native Mississippi to continue his practice there. Dr Harrist relocated to South Dakota in December of 2025 and lives in the Sioux Falls area with his two rescue dogs.

Dr John Lounsbury

Dr. Lounsbury has dedicated his career to advancing animal health and welfare, driven by a compassion & connection to animals. With extensive experience working with a variety of species, he brings an understanding of their unique needs. Dr Lounsbury joined the Pet Wellness Veterinary Group because of his strong alignment with the mission of providing high quality, compassionate, and affordable veterinary care. Rooted in a profound connection to the Midwest—where his ancestors cultivated the land and thrived in the rich hunting and fishing traditions—Dr. Lounsbury embraces the opportunity to serve a community that shares his values. He works at Pet Wellness Veterinary and oversees care for horses at our sanctuary.
